This charming little
adobe is so easy to miss, as it is far away from many of
the other historical buildings. Surrounded by
nightclubs, gas stations and strip malls, it is easy to
over look its humble facade.
However, don't make that
mistake. There is something quite intriguing about this
home, thought to be the site of the first commercial food
operation of its kind in California.
Built in 1857, this small
adobe is typical of the homes ordinary people lived in,
which are very different from the homes of the wealthy
(such as the Olivas
Adobe). It is the only one left standing from
the many that once lined Main Street.
Of particular interest
are the places where the adobe is peeled back to expose
the structural materials beneath.
Directions:
Southbound: Take
the 101 to Main Street. Bear right at the bottom of the
off ramp. Just as you go under the Rt 33 underpass
you will see this building to your left.
Northbound: Take
the 101 to the Ventura exit. Turn left on Thompson
and turn left on Main Street. The adobe will be on your
right.
